Hey there, I'm Matthew Brewer, but you might know me better as "thebrewergame," the online username that I've used across the internet since December 2019. This is my personal blog, where I write about my health, personal life, technology that I find fascinating, and more. I was born, raised, and continue to live in the Chicagoland area of Illinois, in the United States. From a young age, I've always been incredibly passionate about technology, writing, traveling, the outdoors, learning new things, and public speaking. Outside of this blog, I keep busy with a variety of hobbies and other interests, including photography, videography, and a little bit of web development. For work, I hope to one day be part of productions broadcast on television and streaming, particularly live ones, in some capacity, whether behind-the-scenes as a director, camera operator, or in other production roles, or on-screen as a host or anchor, using my extremely creative and problem-solving brain, immense attention to the finest details, and conversationalist personality to assist me. In pursuit of this dream, I joined my high school's broadcasting club and worked a football game in almost every production role before I had to withdraw from the school for medical reasons.
In 2023, after fainting on the floor just outside of my grandmother's bathroom on the weekend of Labor Day, I was diagnosed with the neurological condition POTS, where blood volume is reduced when moving from a lying-down to a seated position to standing up, causing an elevated heart rate and reduced circulation to the brain. Symptoms include dizziness, disorientation, lightheadedness, fainting, migraines, and nausea, among others. Because of my condition, I missed a large part of my sophomore year of high school before eventually finishing most of the year through my high school's homebound tutoring remote learning program, which allows eligible students to complete school when they cannot attend in person. In my junior year of high school, however, I was forced to withdraw from my high school altogether after being denied access to the homebound tutoring program. After withdrawing, my parents enrolled me in a fully remote school to continue my education on schedule; however, due to my deteriorating condition, I could not make much progress in it. To this day, my education remains on hiatus due to my wildly fluctuating health. I started this blog in March 2025 to share what I was experiencing medically at the time. My first post, To Date, shares everything I've experienced medically up to the blog's creation. I continue to regularly publish new posts about my health, personal life, and other topics. Before starting this blog, I briefly wrote in my technology-forward publication, The Writings of Matthew Brewer (December 2024–September 2025). The two posts I previously published there remain online on this blog, and I continue to write posts about technology I find interesting from time to time. Other notable posts from this blog include my almost-complete, five-part Surgery miniseries documenting my experience undergoing orthopedic surgery to correct an issue stemming from complications I suffered in utero and the recovery afterward.
